Advocacy

Relay is the GPCC's ongoing advocacy campaign to develop a broader network surrounding four key issue-areas: Business Climate, Infrastructure, Workforce and Quality of Life.
This initiative is a sustained, multi-year effort to advance our region's ability to attract, retain and grow jobs. The primary mission of the Chamber's Advocacy team is to:
- Bolster economic growth through initiatives that support a competitive business climate

- Help reduce the cost of doing business through major tax reform

- Attract and retain employers and jobs

Today TRIP, a Washington, DC-based non-profit transportation research group, released a report examining the impact Pennsylvania’s roads and bridges have on the traveling public. The report found that poor roads and bridges cost state’s residents $9.4 billion annually in the form of additional vehicle operating costs as well as lost time and fuel due to traffic congestion.

GPCC President Rob Wonderling testified in opposition today on City Council legislation 130161, which sets a U & O tax rate that is double the U & O rate set forth in legislation offered by the Nutter Administration. Passage of bill 130161 would be the 5th tax increase in the last 4 years, totaling some $275 million.

On the deadline to attempt an override of Mayor Nutter’s veto of mandatory sick leave legislation, City Council today did not try to override the Mayor’s veto.
